About

Build around the business, not around the software.

Step Into AI exists because of a problem we lived with for twenty years. Every piece of software we bought for our own small business made us work its way. We built our own system instead, and then realised most businesses cannot. This is what we are doing about it.

The name

We are Step Into AI, written as three words. You will sometimes see it as StepIntoAI or find us at stepinto-ai.com. All three are us. The name says what we want for every customer: a first, practical step into AI that pays for itself, rather than a leap into technology for its own sake.

Where it came from

Step Into AI is a trading name of Manchester PC Services Ltd, and the ideas behind it come from more than twenty years of running Manchester PC as a small technology business in the city. Over that time we dealt with everything a service business deals with: enquiries by phone and web, repair jobs, collections and returns, quotes, parts, invoicing, complaints, reviews and marketing. And over that time we bought or tried most of the software that promised to help.

None of it worked the way the business actually worked. A lead system that asked for fields we did not need and ignored the ones we did. A job tracker that could not identify a device by a label on the equipment. Invoicing that did not know what the CRM knew. Newsletters in one place, customers in another, and a spreadsheet filling every gap. We ended up with several systems, several subscriptions, staff relying on memory, and an owner who could not see the whole picture.

So we built our own, on open-source CRM technology, configured around how the business ran. It took almost two years, and even then there were features missing that would have cost more time and money to add. That experience is the foundation of Step Into AI. Small businesses usually know exactly how they need to operate. Historically they have not had the resources to build software around themselves. AI and modern automation change that, and we set out to make practical, connected, configurable business technology available to ordinary businesses without them having to become software companies.

What we believe

  • Build around the business. The system should adapt to how you work. You should not have to adapt to the system.
  • Every opportunity has value. Every enquiry cost something to generate. Protect it, track it, follow it up, learn from it.
  • Close the gaps. Money and time are lost in the gaps between people, systems and processes. A phone nobody answers is a gap. A quote nobody chases is a gap.
  • One connected customer journey. Calls, enquiries, quotes, jobs, messages and reviews should share one record.
  • Automate the repetitive, not the relationship. Remove admin. Keep human judgement where it matters.
  • AI works with people. Every automated action has an approval setting. You decide how automatic it is.
  • Measure what makes money. Business outcomes, not software activity.
  • Keep it simple. The technology can be complicated. Your experience of it should not be.

How we work

We start narrow. The first problem we solve for every customer is the same one: never miss another enquiry. Phone, AI receptionist, CRM and follow-up, configured for your trade, live within days. Once that is working we expand into operations, retention and growth at your pace, not ours.

We prefer configuration over custom code, because a platform that forks for every customer cannot be maintained or improved. We integrate with the tools you already use rather than insisting on replacing them. And we do not publish testimonials we do not have or numbers we cannot back up. Manchester PC is our first customer, disclosed as such, and pilot customers will be published as results become real.

Where we are

We are based in Ancoats, Manchester. The website and customer records are hosted in the UK. Support is by email and phone, from people who know the product because they built it.
